ISHR’s Peace-building and Rights Program, along with local partners, held a conference on the 10-Year Implementation Review of the Ohrid Framework Agreement in Skopje, Macedonia from June 19 – 21, 2011. Columbia University joined a planning committee of several local Universities including South East European University (SEEU), State University of Tetovo (SUT), Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Philosophy at Sts. Cyril and Methodius University (UKIM), SEEU/Tetovo, SUT/Tetovo and UKIM/Skopje. The goals of the Conference were to consider what was pledged, what was achieved, and what still needs to be done to implement the Ohrid Framework Agreement upon the 10-year anniversary of its signing. Panel discussions addressed a wide range of issues affecting efforts toward Macedonia’s membership in the European Union and NATO. Topics included issues on governance, society and culture, reforms and integration, economy, and regional perspectives on OFA as a model for enhancing co-existence in a multi-ethnic state. “I congratulate you for the effort, energy on assisting and supporting us in each phase of this event both international and local community,” states Diturije Ismaili from South East European University to donors, partners and friends at the Conference. “I personally feel honored as well as SEEU being part of this worthy and respected event.” The Conference was covered widely in local media outlets.
